# Why is there a shrinking ring around my photo or initials in Empatyzer?

The shrinking ring is Empatyzer's automatic logout countdown: after a period of inactivity, it counts down five minutes, and when it reaches zero you are logged out.

In the last 30 seconds, a visible countdown and sound signals warn you. The ring protects your private conversations on an unattended device, much like online banking does. Using the app again before the countdown ends keeps your session open; after a logout, simply sign in again.
